A Little About Me

I graduated from Michigan State University with my Bachelor of Arts in Education in 2011.  I continued my education with Michigan State University in the Master of Arts in Education program. I currently teach 6th grade math and science at Shrine Catholic Grade School in Royal Oak, Michigan.  I attended a Catholic grade school and high school so it feels like home in the small, faith-centered environment.  Previously, I taught 7th grade math in Arizona and although I loved the weather, I prefer to be in Michigan close to my family.

Other than teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, being active, cooking, and baking.  I come from a large, close family of 5 siblings, 3 of which are married.  Additionally, my husband has 4 siblings.  I love living close to my siblings so that I can spend time with them and my 7 nieces and nephews!  This year, my husband and I were blessed to welcome our first daughter, Kara.  We can't wait to expand our family and look forward to taking family vacations to Colorado to ski.

Math has always been my favorite subject in school so I really enjoy being able to share my joy of the subject with my students.  It is my ultimate goal to have all students see the value in math and how it is applicable to everyday life.  I try to make lessons in both math and science interesting and engaging by incorporating technology, games, and group collaboration.  It's important to me that students are able to work well with others since collaboration can be found in higher education as well as in their future careers.
